"Eternal Vigilance is the Price of Liberty." __

____-Ida B. Wells-Barnett

__During the late nineteenth century to the early twentieth century in America, many injustices rang out in the hearts of African Americans. At this time, blacks were denied their rights through segregation and discrimination. There were countless lynchings, and other acts of inhumane violence towards blacks, who were often charged with false or minor crimes and killed without even being given the "right to a speedy public trial" guaranteed by the Bill of Rights.

__During this time of intense turmoil, a passionate woman with a courageous and determined spirit rose up to battle the injustices in society. She led a national campaign against lynching that took the world by storm and opened the eyes of the nation to the horrors taking place in a land that had supposedly guaranteed freedom for all citizens. She was also one of the few black women during this time who took a stand to fight for women's suffrage. Through fiery articles, unwavering speeches, spirited marches, and compelling actions, this woman risked her own life to save the lives and freedoms of others. She was a woman with great hope that inspired her to take action to change history instead of passively letting events take their own course. She was a woman with strength and a vision - she was a woman with a dream.

__Her name was Ida B. Wells-Barnett.
