Note on Bibliography:

Since Aung San Suu Kyi is a relatively recent figure, only several books have been written about her (or by her). Books about the history or culture of Burma (Myanmar) are few in number. The military junta screens and censors all written material coming into and out from Burma. All material, good or bad, about Aung San Suu Kyi is banned in Burma. It is because of this censorship that there are very little literary sources on Suu Kyi. The country has been in isolation for so long, only recently have a few travel books become available on the market. Though Burma is supposedly more "open" now, many publishers and retailers are still against circulating travel material on Burma. Many believe a tourism boycott will help persuade the junta to release its power over the country. Read more about the tourism boycott and other details here.
