The Asian Task Force Against
Domestic Violence/
Asian Shelter and Advocacy Project-$10,000
dedicated to empowering and assisting Asian women who have been victims
of domestic violence by providing shelter and advocacy programs. The Task
Force works specifically with the Asian women to bridge the cultural and
language barriers they confront in traditional battered women services.
The majority of women seeking help are poor immigrants, 40% of whom have
not gone beyond elementary school. Most do not speak English and often
are not literate in their own language.
Island of Hope-$5,000
devoted to improving the lives of teenage cancer patients
and their families. The mission is to bring together people who are struggling
with the same challenges and empower them to approach life positively
while accepting that cancer has caused significant changes.
Young Graffiti Masters-$5,000
teaches inner city youth how to use their artistic skills
in positive ways. Sponsors summer programs at the Massachusetts College
of Art and murals throughout the city. The program seeks to integrate
school and community based on art education with counseling, providing
services to young people in trouble.

East Boston Adult Education
Center-$5,000
helps immigrants pass the test to obtain US citizenship and provides educational
and vocational training. The center provides services such as ESL and
GED courses, adult basic education and support services to obtain academic
scholarships.
New England Soccer, Inc-$1,500
provides youth with the tools they need to build positive personal foundations
and peer relationships through sports and sportsmanship.
Brookview House, Inc-$3,500
an after school program for children in families that are in transition
from homelessness to permanent housing. Provides services and a comfortable,
congenial, supportive and humane living situation for families.
MissionSAFE: A New Beginning-$5,000
dedicated to safety and the quality of life in Mission Hill through community
building and empowerment programs. It is a resident-driven program to
promote interaction, capacity and skill building.
