The Assassination of The Mahatma continued...

The Final Attempt Janunary 30th, 1948: At 5:10 P.M.:
Nathuram Godse got close to the Mahatma, and shot him thrice in the chest, finally taking the life of the Mahatma. The Hindu Maha Sabha and its followers celebrated the murder of the Mahatma by giving out candy. More than one million people assembled in Delhi on the January 31st, 1948 to bid a weeping farewell to the Mahatma.

Five attempts on the Mahatma's life were well documented. And they involved the Pune branch of the Hindu Mahasabha. Three of these which also involved Godse and Apte. "If I am to die by the bullet of a mad man, I must do so smiling. There must be no anger within me. God must be in my heart and on my lips." -Mahatma Gandhi, January 28, 1948, two days before his assassination. His last words were "Hé Ram".
