Haymarket People’s Fund

This placement is with the Haymarket People’s Fund, an anti-racist and multicultural foundation committed to strengthening the movement for social justice in New England. Through grant making, fundraising and capacity building Haymarket supports grassroots organizations that address the root causes of injustice.

The internship positions below offer unique learning opportunities including: (i) a high level of ownership and responsibility with a small philanthropic organization with almost 40 years of grantmaking for social change in New England, and (ii) skills in strategic development planning, executing fundraising strategies, researching and interfacing with donor and foundation prospects, and grant research and proposal writing.

Proposed responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with Haymarket’s grant making process
  • Assisting with donor cultivation tasks such as preparing for donor meetings and implement outreach strategy, researching potential donors, and drafting and sending letters of acknowledgment and other correspondences to donors,
  • Assisting in organizing grant information sessions, and participate in grantee site visits
  • Communicating with applicants about the funding process
  • Assisting in the research of, drafting, refining and sending grant proposals to targeted grantmaking institutions (identified by the intern and approved by the supervisor),
  • Helping to coordinate annual grantee gathering
  • Helping prepare materials and other information as needed, and assisting in other projects with grantees
  • Maintaining, updating, further refining, and generating reports from donor database
  • Maintaining fundraising files
  • Attending and recording minutes at development meetings as needed,
  • Assisting with email marketing content and management; assist in website, blog, and social media management as pertains to fundraising
  • Event planning
  • Updating website content including expanding social media presence
  • Other responsibilities as agreed upon with mentor
