Service Employees International Union, Local 615

This placement is with the Service Employees International Union, Local 615 a 17,000-member labor union covering the states of Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island. Its mission is to raise the living standards of their membership, to support the communities in which they live, and to fight for a better life for the 99% in America. SEIU accomplishes this through new organizing, collective bargaining, community coalitions, advocacy of all types and direct action campaigns. SEIU currently represents service workers such as commercial janitors, security guards, food service workers and trades at office and retail buildings and at 41 colleges and universities. SEIU’s membership is multi-lingual and speaks English, Spanish, Portuguese, and Haitian Creole.

Proposed responsibilities include:

  • assisting with on-going contract campaigns, rallies and strikes, including research and logistics
  • helping with photography and communication (either electronic or written)
  • assisting with legislative initiatives and lobby days
  • assisting with community outreach to strategic partners
  • assisting in administrative and database management and the implementation of organizational tools
  • other responsibilities as agreed upon with your mentor
