Service Employees International Union, Local 615

This placement is with the Service Employees International Union, Local 615 which is a 17,000 member organization covering the states of Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Rhode Island. Its mission is to raise the living standards of their membership, to support the communities in which they live, and to fight for a better life for all working people in America. SEIU accomplishes this through new organizing, collective bargaining, community coalitions, advocacy of all types and campaigns. SEIU currently represents commercial janitors, security guards and a variety of workers in higher education. SEIU’s membership is multi-lingual and speaks English, Spanish, Portuguese, Haitian Creole and Vietnamese.

Proposed responsibilities include:

  • assisting with on-going contract campaigns, including research and logistics
  • helping with photography and communication (either electronic or written)
  • assisting with legislative initiatives, lobby days, scheduling and other tasks
  • assisting with interpretation and translation
  • assisting with community outreach to strategic partners
  • assisting in administrative and database management and the implementation of organizational tools
  • other responsibilities as agreed upon with your mentor
