Oxfam America - Organizing and Outreach

Oxfam America, the U.S. affiliate of Oxfam International, is a world leader in the fight against global poverty, hunger, and social injustice. Oxfam remains committed to community-based work, but it knows there are larger barriers that keep people from thriving. Through their campaigns, they challenge laws and policies that reinforce poverty. This placement is with Oxfam’s Organizing and Outreach Team.

Proposed responsibilities include:

  • developing a strategic vision and materials for Oxfam’s annual Hunger Banquet
  • organizing Oxfam’s concert outreach - a series of concerts across America by well known bands with the goal of educating concert goers about poverty – including:
    • training volunteers
    • tabling at concerts
    • doing online outreach
    • general concert planning
  • supporting the activities of Oxfam’s Action Corps
  • supporting Oxfam’s high school and college clubs including:
    • posting to Oxfam’s Facebook page
    • preparing and sending out Oxfam’s newsletter
    • fulfilling organizing tool kit orders
  • playing a major role in planning Oxfam’s Change Initiative including:
    • event planning
    • recruitment
    • communications
  • performing data entry for the above initiatives
  • other responsibilities as agreed upon with your mentor
