Nicholas Nixon has achieved internatiotal recognition for his moving photographs of people, seen in numerous exhibitions and in books, including People with AIDS, Family Pictures, and Pictures of People. He is a professor of photography at the Massachusetts College of Art, Boston.

As a psychiatrist, teacher, and writer, Robert Coles has transformed our understanding of the inner lives of children. He is the James Agee Professor of Social Ethics at Harvard University and a founder of the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University, where he is editor of its magazine, DoubleTake. In 1998 Dr. Coles received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation's highest civilian honor.
